Electrical Oil Services: Annual Review and Outlook for 2025

Written by Kilian Gerbl | Dec 10, 2024

As we approach the end of 2024, we take pride in reflecting on the shared successes achieved at Electrical Oil Services in collaboration with our business partners. At the same time, we are already looking forward to the exciting projects and topics that will shape our journey in the coming year.

2024 at Electrical Oil Services: A Year in Review

Discover the key goals we have pursued this year – and will continue to pursue!

1. Further expansion & establishing ourselves as a general contractor

This year, Electrical Oil Services has made great strides in international expansion. By strengthening our partnerships, we have been able to offer our transformer oils and associated services in new markets. Additionally, we focused on making our role as a general contractor for transformers and a "comprehensive problem-solver" for all stakeholders more visible. This enables a wider customer base to benefit from our sustainable and innovative solutions.

"We basically offer our customers a comprehensive, all-inclusive package for transformer installation and commissioning. It is a full-service package that covers all aspects of a new transformer project. It is a service for new, usually large, transformers, where we reliably take care of all the details and ultimately hand over a turnkey transformer to our customer, if that is what they want."  Cengiz Egeli, EOS ® Field Engineer

2. Minimising insulating oil waste & promoting the circular economy

A standout achievement in 2024 was the success of our EOS® Closed Loop model, which has significantly advanced the circular economy for many partner companies. By reducing transformer oil waste and maximising resource efficiency, we have made a meaningful contribution to shaping a greener future. At Electrical Oil Services, we firmly believe that sustainability is the key to creating lasting value.

"Did you know that recycled insulating oils meet the same standards as new products? In fact, the IEC 60296 standard also includes oil recycling and ensures identical performance requirements." — Tom Lowcock, EOS ® Key Account Manager

3. Actively shaping & setting standards for transformer oils

This year, we had an intensified collaboration with leading market players and industry associations. Together with key industry stakeholders, we continuously work to shape the standards of the circular economy in the transformer oil sector. A particular highlight was our participation in the Joint Industry Project (JIP) led by DNV, setting new benchmarks for collaboration and sustainability within the industry.

"To distinguish only between bio-oils and mineral oils in the classification of transformer oils would definitely not have covered the scope. The inclusion of recycled insulating oils in the assessment was an important point for the development and improvement of our energy infrastructure in the area of transformers." — Kilian Gerbl, Head of Electrical Oil Services

4. Strong collaboration with customers & validating their trust in us

Our customers have always been at the centre of our efforts. With reliable transformer oil analyses and comprehensive services, we provide our partners with the information they need to make informed, data-driven decisions about their transformers. At the start of the new year, we will notify all companies listed in our EOS® database via email about upcoming oil sampling and maintenance schedules for 2025.

"Our customers can rely on us to provide well-founded recommendations for action and make their decisions based on data. Our EOS ® transformer database ensures this. We store all important information on transformers in this database and supplement it with insulating oil data from the maintenance intervals. This is how we support our customers in optimising their asset management." — Dr. Paulina Nieves, Head of the Electrical Oil Services Laboratory in Hamburg

Looking ahead to 2025: Strengthening partnerships

In 2025, we will continue our growth trajectory. We will further expand our initiatives and implement proven best practices. We will continue to focus on the recycling of transformer oil – especially during operation (enhanced efficiency!) – and the associated conservation of resources. Promoting the circular economy through our EOS® Closed Loop model remains a central goal. Furthermore, we aim to provide even greater support to our partners as a general contractor for everything from transformer assembly to maintenance. We are also excited about future projects and partnerships – both with existing and new companies.
