Expert Interview: Transformer installation and commissioning at EOS®

Expert Interview: Transformer installation and commissioning at EOS®
6:26

Whether entire transformer fleets or individual transformers in industrial operations – a professional partner is essential for transformer installation and commissioning. With its service for new transformers, Electrical Oil Services offers customised solutions as a general contractor that are tailored to the specific requirements of customers and extend to the turnkey delivery of a new vacuum-filled transformer. In the following interview with the EOS® expert Cengiz Egeli, you can find out how you as a customer can benefit from the full-service package.

‘We basically offer our customers a comprehensive, all-inclusive package for transformer installation and commissioning. It is a full-service package that covers all aspects of a new transformer project. It is a service for new, usually large, transformers, where we reliably take care of all the details and ultimately hand over a turnkey transformer to our customer, if that is what they want.’

Cengiz EgeliEOS® Field Engineer

Mr Egeli, tell us about the installation and commissioning of transformers at EOS®

Installation and support during commissioning, including vacuum filling of the transformers, are carried out by Electrical Oil Services (EOS®) in a structured and professional process. This process ensures that all requirements are met and that potential risks are minimised.

To be specific, this involves answering the following questions:

  • Consultancy: What are the individual needs?
  • Preliminary discussion: What is the total scope of the project?
  • Planning: What is the schedule?
  • Hazard analysis: What is needed to minimise risks?
  • Health and safety analysis: What measures are needed?
  • Contracting service providers: Which specialist staff will be on site and when?
  • Project execution: Who is carrying out the work and who is managing which tasks and when?
  • Documentation: which measures are used for professional tracking and quality assurance?

Does this mean that you always follow the same pattern when commissioning new transformers?

Basically yes. Of course, every customer and every project is different, but for us the process always begins with a detailed consultation. In this first step, the specific needs of the customer or project are discussed and compiled. This is followed by a preliminary discussion to collect all relevant data and define the scope of the project.

As part of the planning process, a detailed schedule is created. This schedule clearly defines all the steps. A comprehensive risk analysis is also carried out to identify potential risks at an early stage and to implement appropriate risk-mitigation measures. In addition, a health and safety analysis is carried out to ensure a safe working environment for everyone involved.

The next step is to contract all service providers. This is important to ensure that the appropriate specialists are available exactly when they are needed. After that, the work that has been specified can be carried out, including the vacuum filling of the new transformers in compliance with all legal standards and quality guidelines.

Finally, detailed documentation is compiled from all the documents. This records all the steps and results. The documentation serves both traceability and quality assurance purposes.

With this approach, we at Electrical Oil Services ensure safe and efficient installation and successful commissioning of the transformers. And our customers delegate responsibility for the entire transformer installation and commissioning to us and receive a turnkey transformer from us. Through careful commissioning and good project management, we ensure that all our customers' requirements and expectations are met.

How are transformer installation and commissioning contractually regulated at EOS®?

The cooperation between our customers and us always involves order-related assignments. The specific services and objectives for the erection and commissioning of the transformers are defined. These order-related assignments regulate both our responsibilities and the customer's expectations, thus creating a clear basis for the entire project.

In this way, we as a general contractor ensure that our customers and all other parties involved are well informed and focused on a successful outcome.
