Life extension of transformers
With a greater focus on asset management and making transformers last longer EOS was approached by a leading UK DNO to explore the relatively new (to the UK) in-situ Regeneration technology. The idea is that if the transformer oil and insulation systems are “deep cleaned” and acids and sludge removed then this would form part of a refurbishment strategy to add 15 years life to each transformer without massive capital expenditure.
Over 18 Months EOS worked closely with Asset Engineers, consultants, Safety officers and local SAPs to develop safe and effective systems of work. Both companies learnt a tremendous amount and this knowledge will now be carried forward into the new OFFGEM regulatory period to regenerate targeted transformers as part of a planned life extension strategy.
